Privacy Policy for Morning Mindful
Last updated: March 21, 2026 | Platforms: Android & iOS
Introduction
Morning Mindful ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application on Android or iOS.
Information We Collect
Health and Wellness Data
Morning Mindful is a mental wellness and mindfulness app. The following data may be considered health-related data:
- Mood selections: You may record your mood (e.g., happy, calm, anxious) with each journal entry. This data is stored on your device in an encrypted database and is never transmitted to any server we control.
- Journal entries: Your written reflections may contain personal thoughts related to your mental health and wellbeing. This content is stored on your device in an encrypted database and is never read, accessed, or collected by us.
- Journaling streaks and habits: The app tracks how many consecutive days you have journaled. This is stored locally for your personal motivation and is not shared.
Optional Backup of Health Data
Morning Mindful provides backup options to protect your journals. Regardless of the method you choose, your data is always encrypted before leaving your device:
- Encrypted on your device before export using AES-256-GCM with a password only you know
- Unreadable by us — the encrypted data cannot be decrypted without your backup password
- Under your full control — you can delete your backups at any time
Android You can optionally back up to Google Drive, stored in a hidden, app-only folder (appdata scope). Google Drive backup is entirely optional and disabled by default.
iOS You can export encrypted backup files manually and store them wherever you choose.
How we handle your health data: All health and wellness data is encrypted with AES-256 whether stored on your device or backed up. We never collect, read, transmit, or share your health data. You have full control to export or delete your data at any time.
Other Information Stored on Your Device
Morning Mindful also stores the following data locally on your device:
- Photo attachments: Images you attach to journal entries, stored locally on your device in app-private storage
- App settings: Your preferences such as blocking duration, word count requirements, morning window times, and selected apps to block
- Usage statistics: Entry counts, word counts, and streaks (stored locally for your personal tracking)
Important: All data is stored on your device using encrypted storage. We cannot read your journal entries or personal data.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect or transmit your journal entries to any server we control
- We do not collect personal identification information
- We do not track your location
- We do not access your contacts or other personal files
- We do not sell or share any data with third parties
How App Blocking Works
Morning Mindful blocks distracting apps during your configured morning window until you complete a journal entry. The blocking mechanism differs by platform:
Android Accessibility Service
On Android, Morning Mindful uses the Accessibility Service to detect when you open apps that you've chosen to block during your morning mindfulness period. This permission is used solely to redirect you to your journal when blocked apps are opened.
We do not:
- Read or collect any content from other apps
- Log which apps you use
- Transmit any accessibility data off your device
Android Usage Stats Access (Gentle Reminder Mode)
If you choose Gentle Reminder mode on Android, Morning Mindful requests access to Usage Stats to detect which app is in the foreground and show a reminder overlay.
We do not:
- Collect or store your app usage history
- Track how long you use other apps
- Transmit any usage data off your device
iOS Screen Time (FamilyControls & ManagedSettings)
On iOS, Morning Mindful uses Apple's Screen Time framework (FamilyControls, ManagedSettings, and DeviceActivity) to block apps you've selected during your morning window. A shield is displayed over blocked apps until you complete your journal entry.
We do not:
- Access which specific apps you use or for how long
- Collect or transmit any Screen Time data
- Have access to your device usage beyond the blocking functionality
All Screen Time data stays on your device and is managed entirely by Apple's framework.
Other Permissions
Notifications Android iOS
Used for:
- Showing a notification when app blocking is active
- Sending optional daily reminder notifications at a time you choose
Camera & Photo Library iOS
Used only to attach photos to your journal entries. Photos are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded or shared.
Display Over Other Apps Android
Allows the app to show the journal screen or reminder overlay when you attempt to open a blocked app.
Boot Completed & Exact Alarms Android
Used to restart the blocking service and reschedule daily reminders after your device reboots.
Foreground Service Android
Used to keep the blocking monitor running reliably in the background during your configured morning window.
